More About Akiyo
Akiyo was born and raised in Tokyo and Yokohama in Japan. She learned, worked, and lived in Japan, Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore for over 24 years. She is a mother of a boy with a multi-cultural heritage. Former official volunteer guide for Singapore Botanic Garden, she loves herbs, spices & scents and enjoys walking through the tropical gardens. Akiyo resides in Singapore as a Permanent Resident.
Life Before Coaching
With her many years of experience in multi-cultural MNCs like American Express International Inc, Citibank N.A., SAP Asia, and living & working as a professional in overseas, and its actual involvement in individual, operational level, cross-functional level, and reporting lines in complex environments such as international teams on cross-border assignments. Akiyo gained the essence of leadership and communication styles in both business and cultural contexts.
Sox retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2011 after serving 20 years at several key appointments and contributing to transformation efforts and growing leaders in the organization.
Since retiring from the SAF, Sox continues pursuing her passion to make a difference through coaching, training and facilitation. Sox is a dynamic and passionate life performance coach and her passion is in the area of creating a purposeful experiential learning environment, anchored on authenticity, choice, responsibility and challenge. A life-learner herself, Sox advocates the power of questions, and values the importance of learning through being and doing.
She has created programs for inspiring and building teams, some of which are still being practiced today in the units she served. The numerous teams that she led and coached, not only produced results but also had very positive experience such that they are the envy of their peers.
She won SEA games Gold in hockey in 1993, she has had years of personal experience and practice in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual groundedness required for leadership and peak performance. Not only has she achieved significant results in the sporting field, she is also an accomplished trailblazer in her calling as a professional soldier – achieving numerous firsts in the Armed Forces. The most noteworthy accomplishment is being the first woman Artillery Battalion Commander for which she was inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (2014).
Sox’s training is in both Performance and Ontological Coaching focusing on developing one’s ways of being as a means of producing major shifts in perception and behaviour through creating deep personal awareness, self-responsibility and co-creating practices towards desired outcomes.
